In this episode, Natascha Drubek is the “Bling of the month”. She is an outstanding expert in Eastern European Film and Film History. She talks about her book „Filme über Vernichtung und Befreiung. Die Rhetorik der Filmdokumente aus Majdanek 1944-1945“. Furthermore, she gives insight into her current work on the book “The Theresienstadt Film Project”. Bling of the month

Natascha Drubek is a guest professor of the Fonte Foundation at Freie Universität Berlin where she teaches at the Peter Szondi-Institut of Comparative Literature. She completed her MA and PhD in Slavic Studies & History of Eastern Europe at the Ludwig-Maximilians-Universität (Munich) where she also received her habilitation in the field of Russian and Film Studies. In 2006-09 she held a Marie Curie Grant by the European Commission for the Hyperkino project at FAMU, Prague. Among other fellowships were theDiane and Howard Wohl Fellowship Award at the Center for Advanced Holocaust Studiesand aHeisenbergFellowship of the DFG.

She is the editor-in-chief of the online journal Apparatus. Film, Media and Digital Cultures in Central and Eastern Europe (multilingual, peer reviewed, open access) as well as the editor of the special double issue Apparatus2-3: Ghetto Films and their Afterlife (2016-17).

Her most recent monograph Films on Destruction and Liberation (Filme über Vernichtung und Befreiung. Die Rhetorik der Filmdokumente aus Majdanek 1944-1945. Springer VS 2020) was dedicated to the first Allied film recordings in a liberated German camp which were made in the summer of 1944 by Polish and Soviet filmmakers in Lublin/Majdanek. Currently, she is completing her book on The Theresienstadt Film Project. Natascha is interested in the ethical dimensions of productions involving collaborative work and interference into artistic work by state and police. Another research interested lies in the deletion of authorship, esp. in the case of women authors.

News Chapter

In the News Chapter, it’s all about the “Handbuch Filmgenre. Geschichte – Ästhetik – Theorie”, edited by Marcus Stiglegger. In addition to the handbook, the News Chapter will draw attention to the podcast “Projektionen – Kinogespräche” of which Marcus is co-host. Furthermore, a brief mention is made of the upcoming podcast “Dritte Klappe – Podcast für Film, Forschung und Wissenstransfer”. The News Chapter is in German. (00:53:32-1:23:39)

Marcus Stiglegger (* 1971), lehrt Filmwissenschaft an der Universität Mainz, den Universitäten Regensburg und Klagenfurt , der Filmakademie Ludwigsburg und der IPU Berlin. Studium der Ethnologie, Film- und Theaterwissenschaft in Mainz (1992-1999); Dissertation 1999 zum Thema Geschichte, Film und Mythos (SadicoNazista. Geschichte - Film - Mythos, Hagen: Eisenhut 2014, 3. Auflage.); Habilitation 2005 zum Thema Seduktionstheorie des Films (Ritual & Verführung, Berlin: Bertz + Fischer 2006); Publikationen (Auswahl): Kurosawa. Die Ästhetik des langen Abschieds (München: Edition Text + Kritik 2015), Jenseits der Grenze.
